I offer online lessons, coaching and consultation (via video chat) in:
- Percussion performance
- Chamber Music performance
- Writing for percussion – orchestration, logistics of part assignments, historical perspective
- Career counseling
- Performance on the new bitKlavier instrument (if you’re into that sort of thing!)
Teaching is one of my greatest passions. I originally finished my doctorate at Yale in anticipation of becoming a full time college professor, but my excitement about Sō Percussion lead me initially to a loft in Brooklyn instead. In the 15 years since, I have been honored to teach in many different guises: as performer-in-residence at Princeton University, in the Sō Percussion Summer Institute that I co-founded with my colleagues, and for six years in the new percussion studio of the Bard College Conservatory of Music. I have also conducted masterclasses at more than 80 colleges and conservatories around the world.
These days, I’m looking to stay home as often as possible with my family when not touring with Sō, and so I’m starting this online teaching studio!
If you’re interested, go ahead and book an hour on my squarespace calendar, or send an email. I’ll email back asking what you’d like to cover. I’m happy to do some prep work beforehand (checking out a score or recording, reading over some of your materials).
